The TDR-17S rebuilds the Thunderbolt as a 65-ton skirmisher, a sharp turn from the TDR-1C's role as a missile boat introduced in 2491. Where the original mounted a Large Laser, twin Machine Guns, an LRM 15, and an SRM 2 alongside three Medium Lasers, this variant strips all of that away for an ER PPC in the right arm and a trio of Medium Pulse Laser mounts in the left torso, with a fourth Medium Pulse Laser in the left arm. A 260 compact fusion engine and Triple-Strength Myomer lift cruising speed from 32 to 43 km/h and top speed from 54 to 65 km/h, with Triple-Strength Myomer pushing cruising speed to 65 km/h under combat heat; a 120-metre jump capability is new to the design. Endo steel structure and ferro-fibrous armor replace the TDR-1C's standard structure and primitive plating, and a Guardian ECM suite sits in the center torso. The frame is noted as rugged and field-serviceable, and Blackstone BattleMechs, Ltd. builds it at Inarcs.
