Recognition Notes
The AS8-S is a 100-ton assault refit built for sniping at long range, a sharp departure from the AS7-D original's close-quarters juggernaut role, though both cruise at 32 km/h and top out near 54. In place of the AC/20 the AS8-S carries an Improved Heavy Gauss Rifle in the center torso, and each arm mounts an ER Large Laser where the AS7-D fielded a Medium Laser. The LRM 20 gives way to a lighter LRM 5 alongside a Streak SRM 6 in the left torso, and the twin rear-facing Medium Lasers of the original are replaced by single rear-facing ER Medium Lasers in each side torso. A Clan XL fusion engine and 16 Inner Sphere double heat sinks replace the standard fusion plant and 20 single heat sinks, and a Guardian ECM suite joins Inner Sphere CASE II lining the left torso, right torso, and center torso. Both variants remain command 'Mechs with reinforced battle fists on both arms and enhanced communications gear. Defiance Industries builds the AS8-S at Hesperus II.
